Sally has been awarded a Professional Diploma in Equine Nutrition from The Open College of Equine Studies, where she attended lectures by Dr. Pat Harris MA PhD VetMB DipECVCN MRCVS, and Clare MacLeod MSc BSc. Sally is a member of The Nutrition Society. She has also studied equine nutrition with Dr Eleanor Kellon, VMD, of Pennsylvania, USA. Sally is educated to Degree Level (Business), has a Level 5 qualification in Management and is a member of the Chartered Management Institute. Other equine qualifications include BHS Stable Manager (Int), NVQ Level 3 in Horse Care and Management, and an Advanced Technical Certificate in Horse Care awarded by The British Horse Racing Education and Standards Trust.
Sally is also owner/manager of the prestigious Fircrest Liveries in Kent, a BHS Approved Livery Yard since 2005, offering grass track systems, natural feeding systems and is a pro-barefoot establishment. Sally has previously spent 10 years showing horses both in-hand, under saddle and driven at county show level on the UK circuit.
Sally has extensively studied Equine Nutrition, Equine Anatomy, Physiology and Nutritional Bio-Chemistry, Advances in Equine Nutrition, Equine Sports Nutrition and Sward Management. Sally has in-depth knowledge of the nutritional requirements and experience in managing all types of horses including Working and Performance Horses, Veterans, Broodmares, Young-Stock, and those suffering from Arthritis, Lameness, Cushings and Insulin Resistance. Sally’s scientific qualifications and years of practical experience provide her with a unique perspective on the equine diet from an in-depth study of the latest equine nutrition research papers and NRC guidelines.
Sally has written many articles on equine nutrition for publications including Intelligent Horsemanship (Monty Roberts/Kelly Marks), and Horse and Hound.
